Not long ago, I talked to a business coach which helped online businesses succeed. I then asked them how they went about this, and how they helped others win in business on the Internet. They said that they offered SEO services and they can help you become number one on the search engine. I told them I didn't need SEO services, and I was bothered by the concept. They asked what I meant, and I explained to them that I felt that far too many people were gaming the search engine, and taking away traffic from legitimate businesses.
They told me it didn't matter that everyone needed "search engine optimization" or SEO, and I reiterated that I didn't. I told them if they didn't believe me they could put the name of my companies, or my personal name into the Google search engine and then tell me what pops up. Since they happened to be online at the local Starbucks, they did it right then and there. Then they asked me how I did that, and who my online business coach was. I didn't want to hurt their feelings, but I explained that I didn't have a small business Internet coach at all.
Still, they wanted to know my secrets, for which I do not have any. It seems as if that particular online coach needed a coach of their own, it didn't appear that they were in the right mindset, they were too busy trying to learn the secrets and tricks of the trade, rather than put in some hard work ethic themselves. Further, it appeared they were trying to sell tricky tactics to their clients. They asked me if I might help them rank higher in the search engine so they could get more clients for their online coaching business. Indeed, I obviously declined, but I asked them; "what do you wish to accomplish on the Internet?"
Interestingly enough, this just happened to be one of the questions they had on their questionnaire for all new clients. At this point they thought I was reading their mind, or that there was some sort of camera in the background, and I was hired by their friends to play a trick on them. But here's the thing, running an online business is simple, and if you do it right, you won't need a coach. They didn't need a coach, and I suppose their clients don't either, what everyone needs to do is maintain their own moral ethic integrity, do it right, work hard, and lead by example.
If you do that, you will be successful at whatever you do, on or off-line. Sometimes I feel as if this new generation, or the Facebook crowd has been so busy playing in the fantasy world, that they've never done anything in the real world. It is for that reason that they don't understand the concept of business and doing it right, which happens to work in the virtual world, or out here in reality. In any case, I finished my mocha frappachino and requested that they have a nice day. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
